lana del rey

This singer has just come into my world, and I'm all the better for it. Wow. I thought I was in love with The Avett Brothers, but I have to share my heart with Miss Del Rey. Love her. Her debut album (under this name) is called Born to Die and I can honestly say I've had it on repeat - in the car, on my iPod, in my house. Everywhere - lana del rey.

Getting the point yet?

Check her out.

The Avett Brothers

OK, first off, yes, I've kind of failed at blogging everyday...every week, and now, every month. But I've been missing it and thought to get back to my loving things. Not daily, but rather, when the mood strikes. Hopefully (at least) every week.

It's a new year. And I'm kind of in love with 2012. But I can't blog about a year, at least not just two months in, so I'll write about another love I'm in...

The Avett Brothers. They are so very lovely, so easy to listen to, and you will quickly fall head over heels just like I did. So far I'm only one album in, but I put it on repeat - I and love and you.

Have a listen, curl up from the cold, and feel warmth from the insides out.

Chocolate Cake

So I've dropped the ball on daily updates. Perhaps I should have started weekly updates, then I'd have plenty of favourite things to write about.

Either way, when I remember something that makes me smile ear to ear I'll post about it.

Right now it's this chocolate cake that I'm making for my Godchild's first birthday this coming weekend. I haven't made this cake in years but it's the only one I think of when someone asks for chocolate cake. It's beyond delicious. It's sinful. Soooooooo good. Enjoy.

Butter Tarts

I am aware that eating butter tarts for dinner wasn't the best of ideas this evening but damn it, they are so delicious.

I'm pretty sure they are one of my top favourite desserts of all time.

But they have to be home made. With love. Especially if it's by one of my favourite little bakers - thank you for those!

Try your hand at these, but leave the oven on because the first batch will not last long.

K&D

Kenny and Dolly. That's right, I said it.

I absolutely love my Kenny & Dolly - Islands in the Stream. Priceless.

But mostly, the K&D 'Once Upon A Christmas' album is pure joy. Pure joy I tell you.

You can download this for all of $5.99 on iTunes, and seriously, it will make your Christmas even more enjoyable.

Live Music.

I've been to a couple of live shows this week and I've already posted about the artists so I'll leave that part out. Right now what I want to take a minute to appreciate is live music itself. Regardless of the artist, as long as you like them, the pure pleasure of listening to a live show is perfect. I especially love when the artist tells little stories about the songs they are singing - stories of how the song came about, where they were when they wrote it, what it reminds them of. Some little piece to get you closer to your favourite songs, that's my favourite part of the whole experience.

So that's that. Just a moment to appreciate.

Peanut Butter.

Nothing better.

On a spoon.

On a slice of toast.

Sandwiched between two slices of bread with cut up banana in the middle.

Melted with some good chocolate.

Mixed with a small amount of honey on any of the above. (maybe not the chocolate but I'd try it).

Rediscover the love affair with peanut butter - it has to be good for you. And no, not the natural peanut butter either, I'm talking the sugary goodness that is the PB I grew up on. Kraft all the way.
